Country Swim School was established in 1989 by Sue Lowe. Sue became involved in aquatics in the mid 1970’s while living in Ohio. She was taking daughter Robin, as well as her daycare and pre-school students to the local natatorium for swim lessons and was asked by the pool staff to help with lessons. Sue then took American Red Cross Lifesaving and the Water Safety Instructor courses in Ohio before moving back home to Nebraska.
Sue and Robin moved to Lincoln in the fall of 1976, where Robin joined the swim team at the YMCA and Sue started teaching swim lessons part time. Sue also became the YMCA Aquatic Director in 1980 and continued until 1986. After offering backyard pool swim lessons in the country southeast of Lincoln for several summers, Sue had the opportunity to build an indoor pool and began offering swim lessons year-round. Robin finished a Masters degree from the University of Virginia in 1990 and joined Sue as her partner in the Swim School in 1991. |
